"A Portal to Mystery" is the sixth episode of Minecraft: Story Mode, Season 1, and the first episode of the Adventure Pass.
Plot[]
Chapter 1[]
- "Read immediately, your life depends on it! Greetings, traveler. I humbly invite you to my mansion for an evening of food and festivities with your fellow adventurers. Come to my home on the hill, just follow the path. Please look out for zombies. Sincerely, the Host."

Jesse, Petra, Lukas, and Ivor enter a zombie-infested dimension with two moons in the sky instead of one. Lukas worries about Axel and Olivia back at home. Ivor, on the other hand, is excited to find more treasure. They come across an invitation from "the Host" to seek refuge in a nearby mansion. However, upon reaching the mansion, they find the main entrance blocked by zombies, forcing them to enter through a window on the second floor.
Chapter 2[]
The group enters the mansion's kitchen and meet fellow guests Captain Sparklez and TorqueDawg. The guests tell them that the zombie infestation is unusual for this dimension, though the two moons are normal. Suddenly, the lights go out, and TorqueDawg is killed by a trap firing poison-tipped arrows. After the light turns back on, Jesse investigates the scene and notices that TorqueDawg's inventory has disappeared into a tunnel.
The group is joined by LDShadowLady, who recognizes the Order. They enter the main hall and meet other guests Cassie Rose and her cat Winslow. Startlingly, they discover portraits of themselves on the wall alongside those of other guests; TorqueDawg's portrait is crossed off with a big red "X."
- "So I'm looking at this situation, and I'm trying to figure something out... Is this just about TorqueDawg, or is there a bigger picture?"
- "Well, someone brought us all here for some reason, including TorqueDawg..."

In the dining room, the group meets the rest of the guests—Stampy Cat, TheDiamondMinecart, and Stacy Plays. Jesse shares the news of TorqueDawg's murder, which elicits varied reactions. Taking charge of the situation, Jesse launches an investigation, questioning the guests about their connections with TorqueDawg. It is revealed that TorqueDawg was a notorious griefer and thief who boasted about possessing a "rare item."
CaptainSparklez theorizes that the killer behind TorqueDawg's murder is likely after the enchanted flint and steel possessed by one of the guests—Jesse, in this case. If Jesse decides to show CaptainSparklez his/her enchanted flint and steel, CaptainSparklez deduces that the group is from another world and mentions that he had a hunch. As he gathers everyone's attention to share his theory, a piston suddenly pushes him into the floor, smothering him under a pile of sand.
- "Greetings, adventurers. I... am the White Pumpkin! One of you has the treasure I desire, and I will not rest until it is mine! Even if I have to resort...to murder!"

The lights go off again as CaptainSparklez dies. Via a recording, the mysterious "Host" announces that they are the "White Pumpkin", revealing that they will resort to murder to get the enchanted flint and steel. Similar to TorqueDawg, CaptainSparklez' inventory disappears into a tunnel. Cassie and Winslow attempt to escape outside, only to realize they are trapped within the mansion by the horde of zombies outside.
Chapter 3[]
- "Wait... so you're saying that the White Pumpkin is one of us?"
- "That's right, Mr. Stampy Cat, one of us... is a murderer."

In the main hall, the guests notice CaptainSparklez' portrait beside TorqueDawg's on the wall, both crossed off. Ivor's portrait, following CaptainSparklez', hints that Ivor might be the White Pumpkin's next target. Jesse and Lukas investigate the dining room and discover multiple buttons on the dining table, all of which trigger the trap and recording. Due to the elaborate traps and poison-tipped arrows, Jesse deduces that the White Pumpkin must have advanced Redstone and brewing skills. Because someone on the table pressed a button, he/she also deduces that one of the guests is the White Pumpkin.
Jesse recalls that TheDiamondMinecart, Stampy Cat, LDShadowLady, and Lukas were seated by buttons, therefore making the former three suspects. Jesse interrogates them (except for Lukas) in his/her chosen order, questioning their Redstone and brewing skills as well as their thoughts on who might have the enchanted flint and steel.
In the interrogations, it is revealed that TheDiamondMinecart and LDShadowLady had both been actively seeking the enchanted flint and steel. TheDiamondMinecart found it first, though he claims it had been stolen from him. Responses to questions about Redstone and brewing vary depending on the order of the interrogations.
Jesse can choose to accuse Stampy Cat, LDShadowLady, TheDiamondMinecart, or nobody. If Jesse accuses TheDiamondMinecart or nobody, TheDiamondMinecart angrily storms off to the library. Accusing Stampy Cat or LDShadowLady results in them being confined within the library, with Lukas staying to watch over them while Jesse isn't around.
Jesse, Petra, and Ivor head to the kitchen to further investigate the arrow trap that killed TorqueDawg. Jesse finds a peculiar painting with spy holes, which the White Pumpkin has used to spy on the guests. Behind the painting is a secret passageway, as well as a lever which activates the arrow trap. The three proceed via the passageway and arrive before another painting with spy holes.
Chapter 4[]
Jesse peeks inside the library through the painting's spy holes. Depending on who Jesse accused, either LDShadowLady or TheDiamondMinecart will visit whoever is in the library and reveal that TheDiamondMinecart accidentally pressed a button under the table, triggering the trap that killed CaptainSparklez. The White Pumpkin activates a lever, unleashing spiders to attack the guests and trapping them inside the library. Jesse can choose to either help the guests against the spiders or chase after the White Pumpkin through another secret passageway, hidden behind a different painting.
Help the guests: Jesse, Petra, Ivor, and the guests kill the spiders, but the White Pumpkin disappears. Jesse questions TheDiamondMinecart about CaptainSparklez' death, when suddenly, the lights turn off once more. The White Pumpkin enters, kills LDShadowLady (if Jesse accused her, TheDiamondMinecart, or nobody) or TheDiamondMinecart (if he/she accused Stampy Cat) with a diamond axe, and escapes with their inventory, with Jesse in pursuit.
Chase after the White Pumpkin: Depending on who Jesse accused, either LDShadowLady (if Jesse accused her, TheDiamondMinecart, or no one) or TheDiamondMinecart (if Jesse accused Stampy Cat) is killed by the spiders. The White Pumpkin sweeps their inventories through a hopper before fleeing. Jesse pursues them into the passageway, where the White Pumpkin confronts him/her with a diamond axe. Jesse can slash a mark on the White Pumpkin's mask. He/she continues to chase after them, surviving deadly arrow and lava traps along the way.
Chasing the White Pumpkin into the main hall, Jesse is joined by Lukas in the pursuit. Amid another blackout, the White Pumpkin places their mask in Lukas' hands, causing the guests to suspect Lukas as the killer after the lights turn back on. Cassie immediately accuses him of triggering the trap that killed CaptainSparklez before further pointing out that the murders started once the Order arrived. As a result, Lukas is imprisoned; Ivor stays behind to keep an eye on him while Jesse and Petra set out to gather more clues and find the White Pumpkin.
Entering another secret passageway, the two come upon a shaft. Petra vents her frustration with the other guests to Jesse, who reassures her that they will defeat the White Pumpkin and clear Lukas' name.
Chapter 5[]

Jesse and Petra go down the shaft and discover several zombie mob spawners, the source of the zombie horde outside. Entering the White Pumpkin's lair, they immediately notice a pumpkin farm and several calico cats. Jesse then finds a chest containing crossed-out portraits of the guests. However, he/she notices that Cassie doesn't have her own portrait. Jesse also remembers that her cat, Winslow, is of the calico breed. With these revelations, Jesse deduces that Cassie is the White Pumpkin.
Stampy Cat, who had followed Jesse and Petra down the shaft, confesses to stealing TheDiamondMinecart's enchanted flint and steel, and reveals his plan to surrender it to the White Pumpkin to end her murder spree.
- "None of you have ANY idea what I've been through! I've been stuck in this stupid world -- with its stupid two moons -- for YEARS. Trapped! With a portal RIGHT UNDER MY NOSE but no key to open it! That is, until I finally heard that this world's portal key had been found. I knew it was one of you... So I tried my best to earn your friendship. Figure out who had it."

Back in the main hall, Stampy Cat gathers everyone as Jesse accuses Cassie of being the White Pumpkin. To support the accusation, Jesse can present the following evidence: he/she came across calico cats in the lair resembling Winslow, he/she found crossed-out portraits of all the guests except Cassie, and Cassie was in the main hall when TorqueDawg's portrait was crossed out. If the evidence proves sufficient, Cassie reveals herself as the White Pumpkin. If not, Stampy Cat admits to having the enchanted flint and steel, which leads to Cassie revealing herself regardless.
Cassie explains that she had been trapped in this dimension and lacked the enchanted flint and steel required to activate the exit portal. She reveals her dark plan to kill all the guests, hoping to find the enchanted flint and steel in their inventories. However, before she can act, she accidentally triggers one of her own traps, resulting in her own end by suffocating in sand.
Chapter 6[]
As the sun rises and the zombies burn away, Jesse, Petra, Lukas, and Ivor bid farewell to the surviving guests. As Jesse is about to activate what they believe is the portal back to the Portal Network, another trap is triggered, causing them to fall into an underground Portal Chamber. The group realizes that the portal was a decoy, and the real one had been hidden in the chamber all along. Cassie is also revealed to be alive, having faked her death.
In a final trap, Cassie suspends the group above a pit of deadly Endermites, demanding Jesse's enchanted flint and steel. The group manages to escape using an Ender Pearl found earlier in the lair. Jesse and Cassie fight over the enchanted flint and steel; Jesse defeats Cassie, who once again falls into her own trap.
Trapped above the Endermite-filled pit, Cassie pleads for Winslow. Jesse can choose whether to throw Winslow over to Cassie or leave Cassie by herself in the chamber. With the mystery solved and the White Pumpkin defeated, the group returns to the Portal Network through the real portal.
- "Alright. What is going on, dudes? It's me, CaptainSparklez. Next time on Minecraft: Story Mode... After defeating the dreaded White Pumpkin, will Jesse and the others find their way back to the Portal Hallway? And will it lead them home? Or instead, are they destined for more perilous adventures? Well, I guess I'll never know because I got pounded into the ground by a ton of sand. I guess you saw that, right? I'm in the middle of an amazing speech, and BOOM! I've suddenly become part of the floor. I mean, dude, you saw that, right? How much worse can it get? First they choose NOT to invite me on their adventure, and the next thing I know, I'm part of the floor! Anyway, one thing's for certain: even without me, this is going to be an amazing adventure!"
